Flipped
========================================

In the flipped format, you watch the pre-recorded lecture videos **before** class, and class
time is dedicated to applying the material through worksheets, in-class quizzes, and
discussion. The course covers the same material as the regular STAT 35000.

.. admonition:: Come to Class Prepared
   :class: important

   Class instruction is designed to expand on and apply the lecture videos — not repeat them.
   Before each class meeting you must watch all assigned lecture videos and take detailed
   notes. Arriving unprepared will hinder your ability to participate and will hurt your
   participation grade.

**Participation (8%)**

- *Student profile* (0.5%): submit your student profile by the specified due date.
- *In-class activities and worksheets* (7.5%): engage in and complete the assigned activities
  and worksheets during class. The **three lowest worksheets are dropped** at the end of the
  course.

**In-class quizzes (8%)**

Short quizzes administered during class sessions throughout the semester. The **two lowest
quiz scores are dropped** at the end of the semester.

**Homework and computer assignments (16%)**

Delivered through Edfinity, typically due **Tuesday before midnight**. Homework problems are
automatically graded with multiple attempts allowed. Computer assignments use a provided data
set and require R code, graphs, and written interpretation; they are hand-graded by TAs,
normally by the Sunday after the deadline. The lowest score is dropped. Late work is accepted
within 48 hours at a 20% penalty.

**Exams (68%)**

Two in-person evening midterms (20% each) and a comprehensive final (28%). Two class meetings
are cancelled to compensate for the evening exams: **Friday, October 23** and **Monday,
November 23** (marked on the flipped schedule above). See :ref:`syllabus-index` for dates,
